Gothic Remake Lockpick Locations: Where to Get More Lockpicks
Lockpicks in Gothic Remake are consumables — every snapped pick is gone for good, and the game is not generous with replacements. Running dry in front of a chest is a rite of passage. Here is how to keep your stack healthy.

Buy from traders in the camps
The reliable source: traders in the camps sell lockpicks for ore. Make it a habit — every time you pass through a camp to sell loot or dump ore, check the traders and buy whatever lockpicks they have, so there is no reason to ever walk past a trader without topping up. Treat lockpicks like arrows: boring to buy, painful to lack.
Loot them
Lockpicks also show up as loot while you play. It will never be enough to sustain a chest-every-room playstyle on its own, but it adds up if you actually pick the picks up. The rule is simple: if you see a lockpick anywhere in the game, take it. Your future self, standing in front of a locked chest with a full inventory of everything except picks, says thanks.
Stockpile before chest-heavy areas
Some stretches of the game are dense with locked chests. Before you head into one, detour through a camp and buy picks until your ore or the traders run out. A good habit is to decide your pick count before you leave, not after the first chest — if you would not want to walk back to a camp mid-dungeon, you are not carrying enough. Untrained, budget at least one pick per lock plus spares for the ones that go wrong. They will go wrong. And when the chests turn out to be the 7–8 plate kind, read our hardest locks strategy before you start spending picks on them.
Make every pick last longer
The cheapest lockpick is the one you do not snap. Three ways to stretch your stack:
- Train the skill. Lockpicking training gives you four mistakes instead of two and stops locks from resetting after a break, so one bad lock no longer eats multiple picks.
- Probe before you push. Nudge each plate one hole left and back right to map the links before committing — blind moves are what strain picks. The full method is in our mechanics breakdown.
- Use the solver. Enter the pins and links into the Gothic Remake Lockpicker solver and follow the playback. Every sequence it returns is pick-safe by construction — zero strain, zero mistakes, zero snapped picks. One pick, one lock, every time.
Combine all three and lockpicks stop being a consumable you hoard and become a formality: buy a handful when you pass a trader, grab them whenever they turn up as loot, and the pile grows faster than you can spend it — which is exactly where a lockpicker wants to be.
